Position Overview:

Schwabe, Williamson & Wyatt is seeking a full-time, Trademark Paralegal in our Portland office to join our Intellectual Property team. This role is responsible for delivering high-quality support to attorneys and clients in connection with domestic and international trademark matters. The ideal candidate brings strong analytical skills, deep knowledge of U.S. trademark procedures, and the ability to manage substantial trademark portfolios in a fast-paced environment.

Schwabe has a hybrid work policy allowing employees to work from home Monday and Friday while working in the office Tuesday through Thursday.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct preliminary trademark clearance searches; review and analyze full search reports and ‎prepare ‎memorandum of findings and analysis in connection with trademark clearance ‎searches.‎
  • Prepare trademark status summary reports for attorneys and clients.‎
  • Analyze incoming correspondence, notices, and other official communications and prepare draft reporting ‎‎correspondence to clients concerning office actions, formality requirements, etc.‎
  • Experience preparing and filing trademark-related documents, including but not limited ‎to: Applications, ‎Declarations, Assignments, Powers of Attorney, Responses to Office ‎Actions, Statements of Use, Extension ‎Requests, Amendments, Post-registration filings, Requests for ‎Certified Copies, Appeal Briefs, Trademark Trial ‎and Appeal Board filings, etc.‎
  • Experience preparing and filing copyright documents, including but not limited ‎to: Applications, Recordations, ‎etc.‎
  • Ability to work with digital images and text files using Adobe editing software.‎
  • Experience using USPTO’s trademark e-filing systems and US Copyright Office’s e-filing system.‎
  • Coordinate with international counsel on foreign trademark matters.‎
  • Ability to communicate effectively with clients, USPTO Examining Attorneys and staff, ‎Copyright.

 

Requirements:

  • 5+ year(s) of related experience. An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be used to ‎satisfy these requirements.‎
  • A bachelor’s degree is preferred for this role but not required. ‎       
  • Strong computer research skills.
  • High level of organization, accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Robust knowledge of U.S. Trademark laws and rules, as well as the USPTO’s Trademark Manual of ‎Examining Procedure, USPTO’s ID Manual, and Trademark Trial and Appeal Board Manual of ‎Procedure
  • Ability to manage tasks efficiently and meet tight deadlines.‎
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.‎
  • Self-motivated, proactive, able to work independently and collaboratively.‎
